According to account provided by Lynch, 1975, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 38: 1-46, the name of this species has been broadly misapplied. Most closely related to Eleutherodactylus biporcatus and Eleutherodactylus cerastes according to Lynch and Duellman, 1980, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 69: 21. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) sulcatus series, Eleutherodactylus sulcatus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 222.
