Eleutherodactylus laticorpus Myers and Lynch, 1997, Am. Mus. Novit., 3196: 4. Holotype: AMNH 100000, by original designation. Type locality: "montane forest on southwest sector of Cerro Tacarcuna massif, 1590 m elevation, Darién Province, Republic of Panama. Approximately 8° 10′ N, 77° 40′ W."

Cerro Tacarcuna and Cerro Mali, 1450–1630 m elevation, on the border of Darién Province, Panama, and Chocó, Colombia.

In the Strabomantis biporcatus species series, Strabomantis cornutus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 131. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 140–191, provided a key to the genera and species of Brachycephaloidea (= Craugastoridae, Eleutherodactylidae) in Central America and provided maps and photographs of the species, including this one.
