Atelopus imitator Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920, Rev. Mus. Paulista, São Paulo, 12: 310. Syntypes: MZUSP 477 (Santos), 485 (Santos), 847 (Alto da Serra), 835 (Rio Grande), 639 (Campo Grande). MZUSP 847 designated lectotype by Cruz, Caramaschi, Fusinatto, and Brasileiro, 2019, Zootaxa, 4648: 34. Type localities: "Santos, Cubatão, São Paulo", "Santos, Cubatão, Estado de São Paulo", "Alto da Serra", "Rio Grande, Estado de São Paulo", and "Campo Grande, Estado de São Paulo", Brazil. Lectotype from "Alto da Serra, (23°46’S, 46°19’W, Datum WGS 84, 800 m altitude), Municipality of Paranapiacaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil".

Known from elevations of 100 to 1100 m elevation in the state of São Paulo (municipalities of Cubatão, Juquitiba, Itanhaém, Natividade da Serra, Salesópolis, Santo André, Santos, São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Cotia), Brazil.

Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 27: 139. See Heyer, Rand, Cruz, Peixoto, and Nelson, 1990, Arq. Zool., São Paulo, 31: 249-250 (as Dendrophryniscus brevipollicatus).
