Incilius aurarius Mendelson, Mulcahy, Snell, Acevedo, and Campbell, 2012, J. Herpetol., 46: 473. Holotype: UTA A-52591, by original designation. Type locality: "Guatemala: Huehuetenango: Nentón, Aldea Yalambojoch, Río Sancapech, Finca San Francisco, 1,270 m (approximately 15° 58′ 07.16″ N, 91° 33′ 45.90″ W; 1,270 m)".

Cuchumatan Golden Toad (original publication).

Distribution

Adjacent cloud-forest regions of Chiapas, Mexico, and Huehuetenango, Guatemala, on the humid Caribbean versant at elevations of 1100 m to 1798 m.

Confused with both Incilius valliceps and Incilius macrocristatus prior to its naming according to the original publication.
