Allobates niputidea Grant, Acosta-Galvis, and Rada, 2007, Copeia, 2007: 845. Holotype: MUJ 3520, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento de Caldas, Municipio de La Dorada, Vereda San Roque, Reserva Natural Privada Riomanso, 280 m, 5° 40′ N, 74° 46′ W".

Distribution

Wet tropical forests of the foothills of the western slopes of the Cordillera Oriental () and eastern slopes of the Cordillera Central, and near the Serranía del Perija, 50 to 970 m elevation; reported from the departments of Boyacá, Santander, Caldas, Bolívar, Cesar, and Antioquia.

Comment

The sister taxon is Allobates talamancae and the species name a noun in apposition according to the original publication. Ospina-L., Murillo-Bedoya, García-Cobos, Colón-Piñeiro, and Acosta-Galvis, 2019, Zootaxa, 4656: 196–200, reported on the advertisement call. Colón-Piñeiro, Murillo-Bedoya, Ospina-L., and García-Cobos, 2022, Catal. Anf. Rept. Colombia, Medellín, 8: 1–9, provided a detailed account of the literature, morphology, natural history, advertisement call, a photograph, and range map.
