Simões, Kaefer, Farias, and Lima, 2013, Zootaxa, 3746: 401–421, discussed the diagnosis, advertisement call, and range of the species. Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed, and Rocha, 2010, Bol. Mus. Parense Emilio Goeldi, Cienc. Nat., 5: 65, reported the species (as Allobates spumaponens) from northern Pará, Brazil. Simões and Lima, 2012, Zootaxa, 3499: 86–88, described larval morphology (as Allobates sumtuosus). See Cole, Townsend, Reynolds, MacCulloch, and Lathrop, 2013, Proc. Biol. Soc.
