Colostethus ayarzaguenai La Marca, 1997 "1996", Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 9: 7. Holotype: MHNLS 12949, by original designation. Type locality: "sector central de Cerro Jaua, Estado Bolívar (4° 49′ 55 N y 64° 25′ 54 W)".
