Dendrobates Wagler, 1830
Hysaplesia Boie In Schlegel, 1826, Bull. Sci. Nat. Geol., Paris, Ser. 2, 9: 234. Type species: "Hyla punctata Daudin" (= Calamita punctatus Schneider, 1799), by subsequent designation of Stejneger, 1937, Copeia, 1937: 139. Not Rana tinctoria Daudin, 1802 (= Rana tinctora Cuvier, 1797), by subsequent designation of Duméril and Bibron, 1841, Erp. Gen., 6: 651 (as Hylaplesia Boie, 1827); these authors refer to the type species of "notre Dendrobate" but do not designate a type species of Hylaplesia Boie contra Dubois, 1982, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 39: 268. Suppressed for purposes of the Principle of Priority but not for those of the Principle of Homonymy by Anonymous, 2009, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 66: 103–105.
Hylaplesia —Boie In Schlegel, 1826, Isis von Oken, 20: 294. Incorrect subsequent spelling of Hysaplesia Boie, 1826.
Dendromedusa Gistel, 1848, Naturgesch. Thierr.: xi. Replacement name for Hylaplesia Boie, 1827 (= Hysaplesia Boie, 1826).

Comment
For accounts see Silverstone, 1975, Sci. Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 21); Myers and Daly, 1980, Am. Mus. Novit., 2692: 20; Myers, 1982, Am. Mus. Novit., 2721: 1; and Myers, Daly, and Martínez, 1984, Am. Mus. Novit., 2783: 19; and Caldwell and Myers, 1990, Am. Mus. Novit., 2988: 1–21. See Dubois, 1982, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 39: 267–277, for nomenclatural discussion. Schulte, 1999, Pfeilgiftfrösche, discussed the species of Peru (now parsed among non-Dendrobates genera) and provided a number of species groups; his arrangement was discussed and criticized by Lötters and Vences, 2001 "2000", Salamandra, 36: 247–260. Symula, Schulte, and Summers, 2003, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 26: 452–475, provided a phylogenetic tree for Amazonian Dendrobates. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543–583, confirmed previous results but adopted an out-dated taxonomy. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 131–136, provided a key to the species of Dendrobates and Oophaga (as Dendrobates) in Central America and provided map and photographs of the species.
