Comment
Literature prior to 2025 should be used with caution due to the rapidly changing taxonomy of the group and assignment of geographic localities to taxa. Schulte, 1999, Pfeilgiftfrösche: 88-110, provided an account. Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 514, also provided an account. Schulte, 1999, Pfeilgiftfrösche: 115-121 (Dendrobates lamasi), 121-126 (Dendrobates biolat), provided accounts. Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 466-469 (Ranitomeya biolat), 484-488 (Ranitomeya lamasi), provided accounts and placed this species in their Ranitomeya ventrimaculata group. von May, Medina-Müller, Donnelly, and Summers, 2008, Zootaxa, 1857: 66–68, reported on larval morphology (as Ranitomeya biolat). In the Ranitomeya vanzolinii species group of Brown, Twomey, Amézquita, Souza, Caldwell, Lötters, von May, Melo-Sampaio, Mejía-Vargas, Pérez-Peña, Pepper, Poelman, Sanchez-Rodriguez, and Summers, 2011, Zootaxa, 3083: 61, and who provided an account on page 72–75. Klein, Regnet, Krings, and Rödder, 2020, Bonn Zool. Bull., 69: 191–223, reported on larval development and morphology. Ocampo, Aparicio, Bernal Hoverud, Domic, and Wallace, 2024, Herpetol. Notes, 17: 371–389, reported the species and its habitat in Madidi National Park, La Paz, Bolivia. Twomey, Melo-Sampaio, Brown, Castroviejo-Fisher, Gagliardi-Urrutia, Padial, Gutiérrez, and Chaparro Auza, 2025, Zootaxa, 5701: 433, transferred specimens from Acre, Brazil and Pando, Bolivia to their new Ranitomeya hwata.
