Comment
Khan, 1976, Biologia, Lahore, 22: 208, following Mertens, 1969, Stuttgart. Beit. Naturkd., 197: 15, noted that Tomopterna strachani was probably a synonym of Tomopterna breviceps. This synonymy was accepted by Dubois, 1983, Alytes, 2: 165, but subsequently Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 57, without comment, regarded Tomopterna strachani as either incertae sedis within Sphaerotheca or a synonym of another species. See account by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 106. Prasad, Dinesh, Das, Swamy, Shinde, and Vishnu, 2019, Rec. Zool. Surv. India, 119: 207, commented on taxonomic status. Rais, Ahmed, Sajjad, Akram, Saeed, Hamid, and Abid, 2021, ZooKeys, 1062: 157–175, briefly summarized the confusion around application of this name.
