Comment

Recognized as distinct by Köhler, Koch, Garlacz, Preick, De la Riva, and Vences, 2024, Salamandra, 60: 263–282,  who discussed the evidentiary issues. Previously it had been considered a synonym of Gastrotheca coeruleomaculata by Duellman, 2015, Marsupial Frogs: 298, and of Gastrotheca splendens by Lansac, Aguayo-Vedia, and De la Riva, 2021, Zootaxa, 5068: 211.

Comment under former record of Gastrotheca piperata: Nominal Gastrotheca piperata is similar to Gastrotheca marsupiata according to the original publication. In the Gastrotheca marsupiata group of Castroviejo-Fisher, Padial, De la Riva, Pombal, Silva, Rojas-Runjaic, Medina-Méndez, and Frost, 2015, Zootaxa, 4004: 1–72. See detailed account (as Gastrotheca piperata) by Duellman, 2015, Marsupial Frogs: 363–369. Removed from the synonymy of Gastrotheca splendens by Köhler, Koch, Garlacz, Preick, De la Riva, and Vences, 2024, Salamandra, 60: 263–282, where it had been placed by Lansac, Aguayo-Vedia, and De la Riva, 2021, Zootaxa, 5068: 271–272.
