Common Names

Distribution
Known only from three localities in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes in southern Ecuador: 1) Parque Nacional Yacuri, Parque Nacional; 2) Parque Nacional Podocarpus; and 3) Reserva Tapichalaca in Zamora Chinchipe and Loja provinces, Ecuador, 2899 to 3513 m elevation. Also known in Peru from Sallique, Jaen province, Cajamarca, and Chichuate, Huancabamba province, and Laguna Prieto de Samanga, Ayabaca province, both in Piura.

The sister species of Gastrotheca aguaruna + Gastrotheca yacuri according to the original publication. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 4: 159–162, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, adult and larval morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation. Venegas, Echevarría, García Ayachi, Wong, Chávez, García-Bravo, Catenazzi, and Castroviejo-Fisher, 2026, Zootaxa, 5777: 431–452, provided a molecular tree of the species and a dot map of the species of northwestern Peru and southern Ecuador. In the Gastrotheca marsupiata group of Venegas, Echevarría, García Ayachi, Wong, Chávez, García-Bravo, Catenazzi, and Castroviejo-Fisher, 2026, Zootaxa, 5777: 431–452.
