Stefania tamacuarina Myers and Donnelly, 1997, Am. Mus. Novit., 3213: 33. Holotype: AMNH 131428, by original designation. Type locality: "camp on ridge N Pico Tamacuari, 1270 m elevation, Sierra Tapirapecó, Amazonas, Venezuela (1°13′ N, 64°42′ W)".

Known only from the Sierra Tapirapecó, Amazonas, Venezuela, and Amazonas, Brazil. See comment.

Caramaschi and Niemeyer, 2005, Herpetol. Rev., 36: 77, provided the Brazilian record. Moraes, Almeida, Fraga, Rojas-Zamora, Pirani, Silva, Carvalho, Gordo, and Werneck, 2017, ZooKeys, 715: 103–159, reported on specimens of a closely related but apparently unnamed species from the Serra da Mocidade, state of Roraima, northern Brazil. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph.
