Syntypes: Not stated, presumably originally in IOC, but transferred to the MNRJ; according to Cochran, 1961, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 220: 50, and Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 25-26, syntypes are AL-MNRJ 577 (2 specimens, Tijuca), USNM 96478 (Angra dos Reis), 96319 (Sumare), 96339-45 (Paineiras); MCZ 25695 (on exchange from USNM, considered a syntype by Barbour and Loveridge, 1946, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 96: 120); UMMZ 68786 (3 adults, 2 tadpoles) regarded as syntypes by Kluge, 1983, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 166: 41. Type locality: "Environs of Rio de Janeiro", Brazil. Corrected to "Tijuca", "Angra dos Reis", "Sumare", and "Paneiras", all in the vicinity of Rio de Janeiro, by Cochran, 1961, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 220: 50.

In the Hyla albomarginata group, according to Duellman, 1970, Monogr. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas: 240. In the more exclusive Hyla albofrenata subgroup of Cruz and Peixoto, 1987 "1985", Arq. Univ. Fed. Rural Rio de Janeiro, 8: 103-105. The call described for this species by Heyer, Rand, Cruz, Peixoto, and Nelson, 1990, Arq. Zool., São Paulo, 31: 256, was (p. 233) noted in the same paper to be that of Aplastodiscus arildae. In the Aplastodiscus albofrenatus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 82.
