Hyla eugenioi Carvalho-e-Silva and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2005, J. Herpetol., 39: 74. Holotype: ZUFRJ 6376, by original designation. Type locality: "Serra do Piloto (22° 54′ 05″ S; 44° 01′ 08″ W, approximately 250 m elevation), Municipality of Mangaratiba, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil".

Distribution
Known from the Serra do Mar in adjacent portions of the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil, as well as on three islands on the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro (state), 0–300 m elevation. See comment.

See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 615. Miranda, Abrunhosa, and Silva, 2016, Tropical Conserv. Sci., 9: 338–353, reported on mating call in insular populations. M. Mongin in Ferreira, Mônico, Silva, Lirio, Zocca, Mageski, Tonini, Beard, Duca, and Silva-Soares, 2019, ZooKeys, 857: 152, noted an unnamed species, "Aplastodicus aff. eugenioi" in the region of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil.
