In the Hyla polytaenia group according to the original publication. Brandão and Araújo, 2001, in Ribeiro et al. (eds.), Cerrado—Caracterização e Recuperação de Matas de Galeria: 560-604, reported the species in the Distrito Federal, Brazil. In the Hyla pulchella group, Hyla polytaenia clade of Faivovich, Garcia, Ananias, Lanari, Basso, and Wheeler, 2004, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 32: 944. In the Hypsiboas pulchellus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 87-88. Braga, Brandão, and Colli, 2010, Check List, 6: 232-233, provided a range extension and discussed the range.
