Records of this species from Argentina have been referred to Hypsiboas semiguttatus by Carrizo, 1991 "1990", Cuad. Herpetol., 5: 32-39. In the Bokermannohyla claresignata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 83. Lyra, Lourenço, Pinheiro, Pezzuti, Baêta, Barlow, Hofreiter, Pombal, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2020, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 190: 1235–1255, provided evidence that this species is in Boana, with Boana clepsydra forming the Boana claresignata group. The authors also reported on morphology
