Type locality: "Palmar (100 m., westliche der Anden", Ecuador; Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 82, thought this might be Palmar on Río Chila, Provincia Manabí, Ecuador.
Hyla pulicaria Werner, 1901, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 51: 601. Holotype: ZMB 16591, according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 82. Type locality: "Ecuador". Synonymy by Duellman, 1971, Herpetologica, 27: 221.
Hyla guibei Cochran and Goin, 1970, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 288: 233. Holotype: FMNH 54773, by original designation. Type locality: "Pueblorrico-St. Cecilia, 800 meters, Pacific side, [Departamento] Caldas, Colombia". Synonymy by Duellman, 1971, Herpetologica, 27: 221.

Venegas, Siu-Ting, and Jordán, 2008, Check List, 4: 214-217, provided the first record for Peru. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 109–111, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador. Armijos-Ojeda, Székely, Székely, Cogǎlniceanu, Cisneros-Heredia, Ordóñez-Delgado, Escudero, and Espinosa, 2021, ZooKeys, 1063: 23–48, provided a dot map, suggesting the absence of the species from northwestern Ecuador.
