Ptychohyla hypomykter McCranie and Wilson, 1993, Southwest. Nat., 38: 101. Holotype: USNM 319918, by original designation. Type locality: "beside the Quebrada Cañon Oscuro (15° 05′ N, 88° 56′ W), 1150-1170 m elevation, a stream on Montaña Cerro Azul below Quebrada Grande, Departamento de Copán, Honduras".

Cloud forest at elevations of 340–2070 m on the Atlantic versant from west-central Guatemala to north-central Nicaragua, exclusive of the Cordillera Nombre de Dios of north-central Honduras, possibly into El Salvador.

Until McCranie and Wilson, 1993, Southwest. Nat., 38: 100–104, sorted out the confusion surrounding types, this species was confused with Ptychohyla spinipollex.
