Hyla cyanomma Caldwell, 1974, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 28: 8. Holotype: KU 137014, by original designation. Type locality: "a mountain stream 1.2 km (by road) N Cerro Pelón, 2650 m, in cloud forest on a northern slope of the Sierra de Juárez, Distrito de Ixtlán, Oaxaca, México.

In the Hyla bistincta group according to the original publication. In the Plectrohyla bistincta group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 105. See account by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 966-968, who noted that this species may be extinct.
