Scinax tigrinus Nunes, Carvalho, and Pereira, 2010, Zootaxa, 2514: 25. Holotype: MNRJ 54464, by original designation. Type locality: "Palmital District (16° 19′ 20″ S, 47° 13′ 10″ W; 970 m altitude), Municipality of Cabeceira Grande, Minas Gerais State, Southeastern Brazil".

In the Scinax ruber group, close to Scinax maracaya according to the original publication, where the advertisement call and external morphology were detailed. Bang and Giaretta, 2016, Rev. Brasil. Biociênc., Porto Alegre, 14: 181─186, described the advertisement call. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed.
