Coastal lowlands of southern Bahia, Espíritu Santo, and Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil.

Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 63, provided a brief account and photo. Considered a junior synonym of Sphaenorhynchus lacteus; without discussion, by Gorzula and Señaris, 1999 "1998", Scient. Guaianae, 8: 45. Pereira Silva, Ceron, Silva, and Santana, 2022, Ecol. Evol., 12(e8754): 1–15, reported on phylogenetic relationships and biogeography and provided a polygon map of the species.
