Ron, Venegas, Ortega-Andrade, Gagliardi-Urrutia, and Salerno, 2016, ZooKeys, 630: 115–154, reidentified all Amazonian specimens formerly identified as Trachycephalus typhonius from Ecuador as Trachycephalus macrotis. See brief account for the Manu region, Peru, by Villacampa-Ortega, Serrano-Rojas, and Whitworth, 2017, Amph. Manu Learning Cent.: 210–211, although it is not clear that the species is present in that part of Peru (DRF).
