Trachycephalus mambaiensis Cintra, Silva, Silva, Garcia, and Zaher, 2009, Zootaxa, 1975: 59. Holotype: MZUSP 135715, by original designation. Type locality: "the vicinity of Santa Edwiges I hydroelectric power plant dam, Municipality of Mambaí, State of Goiás, Brazil (14°17′24″S 46°11′37″W or UTM 0371233 and 8419860)".

Distribution
Known from the type locality (Municipality of Mambaí, extreme eastern state of Goiás), 230 km to the northeast in the Municipality of Santa Maria da Vitória, Bahia, and into northern and west-central Minas Gerais, and Combinado Municipality, southeastern Tocantins, Brazil.

Dayrell, Fernandes, Moura, and Feio, 2012, Check List, 8: 269-271, provided a range extension in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and commented on the range. Silva, Carvalho, Pereira Silva, Fadel, Dantas, Brandão, and Santana, 2020, Biota Neotrop., 20 (1: e20190838): 15, reported the species from the state of Tocantins, Brazil. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed. Brasil Central: 100, provided an account.
