Hyperolius nitidulus bangwae Perret, 1966, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 93: 415. Holotype: MHNG 1039.2, by original designation. Type locality: "Bangwa", Cameroon. Formerly placed in the synonymy of Hyperolius viridiflavus pallidus (now Hyperolius tuberculatus pallidus) by implication of Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 206.

Removed from the synonymy of Hyperolius nitidulus by Channing, 2022, Zootaxa, 5134: 334, on the basis of molecular evidence showing it to be most closely related to Hyperolius tuberculatus, and also described the advertisement call and comparative external morphology.
