Hyperolius chelaensis Conradie, Branch, Measey, and Tolley, 2012, Zootaxa, 3269: 5. Holotype: PEM A9223, by original designation. Type locality: "from a small patch (< 2.5ha.) of Afromontane forest in a small gorge draining from Serra da Chela above the Estacao Zootecnica, near Humpata, Lubango, Angola (14° 53′ 22″ S; 13° 16′ 27″ E, 1413CD, 2045 m above sea level)".

Distribution

Known only from the type locality in the Serra do Chela, Lubango, Angola, although expected to be more widespread in the Chela and Leba mountain ranges.

Comment

The sister taxon of Hyperolius cinereus according to the original publication, where the external morphology, molecular markers, and advertisement call were detailed. Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 98, provided a map for Angola and a brief account. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 206–207, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Becker, Baptista, Vaz Pinto, Ernst, and Conradie, 2023, Namib. J. Environm., 8: 245–257, discussed this species, its range in the highlands of Angola, and provided a dot map.
