Hyperolius chrysogaster Laurent, 1950, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 44: 13. Holotype: MRAC unnumbered by original designation. Type locality: "Bitale (Alt. 1. 750 m.) à l'ouest du Kahusi, Territoire de Kalehe, Kivu", Dem. Rep. Congo.

Rev., 43: 254–259, reported the rediscovery of this species near Kahuzi-Biega National Park, not otherwise collected since 1954. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 174–175, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Dehling and Sinsch, 2023, Diversity, 15 (512): 65, specifically excluded this species from the fauna of Rwanda.
