Hyperolius diaphanus Laurent, 1972, Explor. Parc Natl. Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 67. Holotype: MRAC, according to Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 209; not located, but in either MRAC or IRSNB according to Lang, 1990, Doc. Trav., Inst. R. Sci. Nat. Belg., 59: 8, so presumed lost. Type locality: "Kigulube, 900 à 1. 000 m, territorio de Shabunda, Kivu", eastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Distribution
Rainforest in the vicinity of the Itombwe Mountains and the mountains to the west of Lake Kivu, eastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Comment
See comment under Hyperolius frontalis. Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 157, provided a very brief account. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 174–175, provided a brief account and range map. Dehling and Sinsch, 2023, Diversity, 15 (512): 65, specifically excluded this species from the fauna of Rwanda.
