Hyperolius ferrugineus Laurent, 1943, Ann. Mus. R. Congo Belge, Tervuren, Zool., 4: 100. Holotype: MRAC 40224, by original designation. Type locality: "Lodjo s/Mongbwalu (Ituri)", Dem. Rep. Congo.
Common Names
Ituri Reed Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 67).
Rust-colored Reed Frog (Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 206).
Distribution
Known from the type locality (Lodjo, Ituri) and the Okapi Wildlife Preserve, northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo, near the Uganda border.

Comment
Extremely poorly known according to Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 152, who noted it is only known from the holotype. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 206–207, provided a brief account and range map. Mali, Banda, Chifundera, Badjedjea, Sebe, Lokasola, Ewango, Tungaluna, and Akaibe, 2019, Am. J. Zool., 2: 38–43, reported the species from the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo.
