Comment
Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 105–109, in his account of the species noted that the three subspecies are allopatric and diagnosable. See comments by Rödel, 1998, Rev. Fr. Aquar. Herpetol., 25: 128–129. Rödel, 2000, Herpetofauna W. Afr., 1: 221–224, provided an account. Rödel and Branch, 2002, Salamandra, 38: 259, noted that the name covers three described subspecies and two additional similar species restricted to Tai National Park and the Mont Nimba region. Schiøtz, 1963, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 125: 66–69, provided records for Nigeria. Rödel, Brede, Schiefenhövel, Penner, Sinsin, and Nago, 2007, Salamandra, 43: 238, provided a record from Lama Forest, southern Benin. See comments by Rödel, Gil, Agyei, Leaché, Diaz, Fujita, and Ernst, 2005, Salamandra, 41: 118, who suggested that Hyperolius fusciventris fusciventris, Hyperolius fusciventris lamtoensis, and Hyperolius fusciventris burtoni might be distinct species. See account for Cameroon by Amiet, 2012, Rainettes Cameroun: 303–312. Rödel and Glos, 2019, Zoosyst. Evol., 95: 22, reported this species from the Krahn-Bassa Proposed Protected Area in southeastern Liberia and the Foya Proposed Protected Area in western Liberia. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 172–173, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Oussou, Assemian, Kouadio, and Tiédoué , 2022, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 16 (1, e298): 1–13, found Hyperolius fusciventris fusciventris and Hyperolius fusciventris lamtoensis in sympatry in Tai National Park, southwestern Ivory Coast. Gansa, Agadjihouèdé, and Hounkanrin, 2023, Afr. Zool., 58: 39–56, reported the species from the lower Ouémé Valley, southern Benin, and briefly descried habitat preference.
