Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Hyperolius marmoratus by Wieczorek, Drewes, and Channing, 2000, J. Biogeograph., 27: 1231–1243 (who provided a new concept and range), and Wieczorek, Drewes, and Channing, 2001, Amphibia-Reptilia, 22: 159, where it had been placed by Laurent, 1961, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 64: 84. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 162–163, provided an account and who regarded the range as "from southern and central Kenya, central Tanzania including the Serengeti, to southwestern Uganda." Köhler, Scheelke, Schick, Veith, and Lötters, 2005, Afr. Zool., 40: 127-142, described the advertisement call. Malonza, Lötters, and Measey, 2010, J. E. Afr. Nat. Hist., 99: 56, commented on range, habitat, and conservation status in the Taita Hills of Kenya. Measey, Malonza, and Muchai, 2009, Amph. Taita Hills: 50–52, provided a brief account and photo for the Taita Hills, Kenya. Conradie, Branch, Measey, and Tolley, 2012, Zootaxa, 3269: 1–17, suggested that Hyperolius glandicolor is the sister taxon of Hyperolius viridiflavus + (Hyperolius tuberculartus + Hyperolius angolensis [= presumably, Hyperolius parallelus]).See general discussion of the Hyperolius viridiflavus–parallelus–marginatus group by Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 206–228. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 181-182, provided an account (as Hyperolius sheldricki). Discussed (as Hyperolius sheldricki) by Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 419. Harper, Measey, Patrick, Menegon, and Vonesh, 2010, Field Guide Amph. E. Arc Mts. Tanzania and Kenya: 178–181, provided a brief account as Hyperolius glandicolorMarques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 103, noted a record for Angola, but suggested it was based on a misidentification. Dehling and Sinsch, 2019, Zool. Anz., 280: 65–77, reported on the evolution of larval and adult morphospace in the Central African Albertine Rift, including this species which they considered to be in the Hyperolius viridiflavus group. Lawson, Liedtke, Menegon, and Loader, 2018, Herpetol. Notes, 11: 873–879, reported on reproductive characteristics of nominal Hyperolius viridiflavus ngorongoriensis.  Spawls, Wasonga, and Drewes, 2019, Amph. Kenya: 26–27, provided range maps for Kenya, photograph, and brief characterization as Hyperolius viridiflavus var. ferniquei, Hyperolius viridiflavus var. glandicolor, Hyperolius viridiflavus var. pantherinus, and Hyperolius viridiflavus var. mariae.  Portik, Bell, Blackburn, Bauer, Barratt, Branch, Burger, Channing, Colston, Conradie, Dehling, Drewes, Ernst, Greenbaum, Gvoždík, Harvey, Hillers, Hirschfeld, Jongsma, Kielgast, Kouete, Lawson, Leaché, Loader, Lötters, van der Meijden, Menegon, Müller, Nagy, Ofori-Boateng, Ohler, Papenfuss, Rößler, Sinsch, Rödel, Veith, Vindum, Zassi-Boulou, and McGuire, 2019, Syst. Biol., 68: 859–875, implied in supplemental figure FigS1 that Hyperolius glandicolor is part of Hyperolius viridiflavus, but the evidentiary basis for this is unclear. Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 407–450, briefly discussed the ZMB types and their collectors and provenance of Hyperolius albolabris, Hyperolius asper, Hyperolius bergeri, Hyperolius coeruleopunctatus, Hyperolius glandicolor, Hyperolius pulchromarmoratus, Hyperolius scheffleri, and Hyperolius striolatus. Channing, 2022, Zootaxa, 5134: 301–354, discussed the systematics, reidentified a number of GenBank sequences, restricted the range substantially by excluding a number of populations, provided a range map, molecular tree, and a summary of the color patterns for all of the named taxa in the synonymy, and characterized the advertisement call.
