Hyperolius houyi Ahl, 1931

Class: Amphibia > Order: Anura > Family: Hyperoliidae > Subfamily: Hyperoliinae > Genus: Hyperolius > Species: Hyperolius houyi

Hyperolius houyi Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 374. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; lost, according to Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 211. Type locality: "Ussagara (Neu Kamerun)", presumably Ussagara in Tanzania although "Neu Kamerun" nowadays is called Chad. The description in Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 101, appeared a few weeks later according to unpublished notes by A. Loveridge (fide R. Laurent).

English Names

Ussagara Reed Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 67).

Known only from the type locality (Ussagara, Tanzania).

Probably a synonym of Hyperolius viridiflavus (Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 211). Not mentioned by Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 396, regarded this nominal taxon as too insufficiently known to treat adequately in their fieldguide.
