Comment
The status of this nominal form is confusing. Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 147 and 149, suggested that populations from eastern Dem. Rep. Congo may actually be composite, including Hyperolius kuligae, and possibly identical with Hyperolius platyceps to the west. See comments by Köhler, Scheelke, Schick, Veith, and Lötters, 2005, Afr. Zool., 40: 135, who described the advertisement call. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 165–166, provided an account. Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 105, provided a map for Angola and a brief account, implying that the Angola record probably applies to Hyperolius bocagei. Mali, Banda, Chifundera, Badjedjea, Sebe, Lokasola, Ewango, Tungaluna, and Akaibe, 2019, Am. J. Zool., 2: 38–43, reported the species from the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 194–195, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. See comment under Hyperolius kuligae. Badjedjea, Masudi, Akaibe, and Gvoždík, 2022, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 16 (1: e301): 52–54, commented on a population of Hyperolius cf. langi from the Kokolopori Bonobo Nature Reserve, Tshuapa Province, Dem. Rep. Congo, and the taxonomic questions they present. Dehling and Sinsch, 2023, Diversity, 15 (512): 65, specifically excluded this species from the fauna of Rwanda.
