Distribution
Transition forest west of the southern part of the Itombwe Highlands and northern slopes of the Kabobo Highlands, eastern Dem. Rep. Congo, 1850-2000 m elevation.

A vicariant of Hyperolius chrysogaster (Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 212). Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 154, provided a very brief account and map. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 286. Greenbaum and Chifundera, 2012, Herpetol. Rev., 43: 254–259, reported the rediscovery of this species, not otherwise collected since 1954. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 204–205, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
