Hyperolius noblei Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 118. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; ZMB 85765 is the holotype according to Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 430. Type locality: "Kilwa (Deutsch-Ostafrika)" = Kilwa (Kivinje), Kilwa District, Lindi Region, Tanzania.

Placed in the synonymy of Hyperolius puncticulatus by Loveridge, 1936, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 79: 37; of Hyperolius marmoratus mariae by Laurent, 1952 "1951", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 82: 386, and considered a distinct species by Channing, 2022, Zootaxa, 5134: 340, on the basis of molecular evidence; he also described the advertisement call.The description in Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 400, was published subsequently according to Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 430.
