Rappia puncticulata Pfeffer, 1893, Jahrb. Hamburg. Wiss. Anst., 10: 99. Holotype: ZMH 157; destroyed in WWII, according to Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 186. Type locality: "Sansibar" (= Zanzibar), Tanzania. Given by Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 376 as "Zanzibar, behind the German Club House . . . now the Bwawani Plaza Hotel, about 8 km from Bububu".

See comments under Hyperolius substriatus and Hyperolius parkeri. Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 165–168, provided a brief account (in the earlier sense of the taxon) and map. Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 376–380, discussed the identity of this species and concluded that it was one of the two Hyperolius parkeri-like species on the island of Zanzibar and referred all mainland records to Hyperolius substriatusHarper, Measey, Patrick, Menegon, and Vonesh, 2010, Field Guide Amph. E. Arc Mts. Tanzania and Kenya: 196–197, provided a brief account and photograph. Köhler, Scheelke, Schick, Veith, and Lötters, 2005, Afr. Zool., 40: 127–142, described the advertisement call. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 198–199, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
