Hyperolius rhizophilus Rochebrune, 1885, Bull. Soc. Philomath., Paris, Ser. 7, 9: 92. Type(s): "Museo Bouvieri", now presumably in MNHNP, although seemingly not recognized as such. Type locality: "Locum Landana dictum, in foliis rhizophorarum", Cabinda enclave, Angola.

II): 113–114, provided a map and brief account for Angola. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 396, regarded this nominal taxon as too insufficiently known to treat adequately in their fieldguide.
