Hyperolius torrentis Schiøtz, 1967, Spolia Zool. Mus. Haun., 25: 218. Holotype: ZMUC R074376, by original designation. Type locality: "at a small stream near the village Biakpa, Ghana".

Akwapim-Togo Range along the southeastern Ghana–Togo border; northeastern and southeastern Benin.

Leaché, Rödel, Linkem, Diaz, Hillers, and Fujita, 2006, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 41: 22–45, reported the species from Kyabobo National Park, Ghana, on the border with Togo.See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 288. Hillers, Ofori-Boateng, Segniagbeto, Agyei, and Rödel, 2009, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 85: 127–141, discussed the range and habitat of the species and provided a photograph. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 224, provided information on comparative larval morphology. Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 127, provided a brief account and map. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 184–185, provided a brief account and range map (which included the Benin segment of the range). Gansa, Agadjihouèdé, and Hounkanrin, 2023, Afr. Zool., 58: 39–56, reported the species from the lower Ouémé Valley, southeastern Benin, and briefly described habitat preference. Segniagbeto, Ohler, Rödel, Luiselli, and Dubois, 2024, Zoosystema, 46: 649, provided a brief account for Togo, discussing habitat, distribution, conservation status, and identification.
