Known only from the type locality (Lagoa da Sombra, Parque Nacional do Caparaó, municipality of Ibitirama, Espírito Santo, Brazil).
Comment
In the Physalaemus signifer clade according to the original publication, where adult and larval external morphology, morphometrics, advertisement call, karyotype, and 12S mtDNA markers, which place this species as the sister taxon of Physalaemus maculiventris, with which it had previously been confused.
