Physalaemus soaresi Izecksohn, 1965, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 25: 165. Holotype: EI 1797, by original designation. Type locality: "Horto Florestal de Santa Cruz, Municipio de Itaguaí, Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil".

Common Names

Santa Cruz Dwarf Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 83).

Distribution

Known only from the three localities: 1) Horto Florestal de Santa Cruz, Municipio de Itaguaí; 2) Barro Branco, Muncipality of Duque de Caxias; and 3) Serra do Mendanha, municipality of Rio de Janeiro, all in the southwestern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 311. Weber, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Gonzaga, 2005, Zootaxa, 1072: 35–42, reported on systematics, vocalizations, and larval morphology. Pontes, Pontes, Santa Fé, Lima, and Rocha, 2010, Check List, 6: 159-161, discussed the range and provided a record from Serra do Mendanha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the Physalaemus cuvieri clade, Physalaemus olfersii species group, of Lourenço, Targueta, Baldo, Nascimento, Garcia, Andrade, Haddad, and Recco-Pimentel, 2015, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 92: 204–216. Hepp and Pombal, 2020, Zootaxa, 4725: 1–106, discussed this species as part of a genus-wide discussion of bioacoustical traits among the species.
