Boophis ankaratra Andreone, 1993, Boll. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 11: 302. Holotype: MRSN A73.1, by original designation. Type locality: "the mountain forest near Manjakatompo (Ankaratra Massif, 17 km westwards of the town of Ambatolampy)", Madagascar.

High elevation rainforest in the Ankaratra and Andringitra mountains of central Madagascar, 1200–1800 m elevation.

Comment

In the Boophis luteus group, most similar to Boophis mandraka, according to the original publication. See account by Vences, Andreone, Glaw, Raminosoa, Randrianirina, and Vieites, 2002, Ital. J. Zool., 69: 266. In the Boophis albipunctatus group of Glaw and Vences, 2006, Organisms Divers. Evol., 6: 242. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 172-173, provided an account and provided brief accounts of 3 unnamed but similar species, one of which is now Boophis boppa. Andreone, Vences, Glaw, and Randrianirina, 2007, Tropical Zool., 20: 19-39, reported the species from the high plateau of central Madagascar. Randrianiaina, Strauss, Glos, and Vences, 2012, ZooKeys, 178: 59-124, reported on larval morphology.
