Rhacophorus majori Boulenger, 1896, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 17: 402. Syntypes: BMNH (4 specimens), these being 1947.2.7.66–69 (formerly 1895.7.4.38–41) according to museum records; BMNH 1947.2.7.67 designated lectotype by Blommers-Schlösser, 1979, Bijdr. Dierkd., 49: 280. Type locality: "Ambohimitombo forest, Madagascar".

Known only from three localities in central-eastern Madagascar (20° 43′–22° 07′ S), 100–1500 m elevation.
