Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 170-171, provided an account and considered this species to be a member of the Boophis luteus group. Randrianiaina, Raharivololoniaina, Preuss, Strauß, Glaw, Teschke, Glos, Raminosoa, and Vences, 2009, Zootaxa, 2021: 23–41, described larval morphology. Mezzasalma, Odierna, Brunelli, and Guarino, 2025, Genes, 16 (1464): 1–13, reported on the karyotype of Boophis aff. septentrionalis
