In the Boophis luteus group according to the original publication. In the Boophis albipunctatus group of Glaw and Vences, 2006, Organisms Divers. Evol., 6: 242. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 172-173, provided an account and noted an unnamed similar species in east-central to southeastern Madagascar. Randrianiaina, Strauss, Glos, and Vences, 2012, ZooKeys, 178: 59-124, reported on larval morphology.
