Mantidactylus bourgati Guibé, 1973, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Ser. 3, Zool., 145: 1009. Holotype: MNHNP 1972.437, by original designation. Type locality: "Ambalamarovandana", Andringitra Mountains, Madagascar.

Andringitra Mountains, known from Andringitra, Belambo, Fivahona, and Tsaranoro, 940–2488 m elevation, southeastern Madagascar.

Evol., 6: 249, where it had been placed by Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 244. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 236-237, provided an account. Subgenus Brygoomantis, Mantidactylus curtus clade of Scherz, Crottini, Hutter, Hildenbrand, Andreone, Fulgence, Köhler, Ndriantsoa, Ohler, Preick, Rakotoarison, Rancilhac, Raselimanana, Riemann, Rödel, Rosa, Streicher, Vieites, Köhler, Hofreiter, Glaw, and Vences, 2022, Megataxa, 7: 113–311, who provided an account detailing (p. 186–189) diagnosis, natural history, adult morphology, advertisement call, and distribution.
