Mantidactylus Catalai Angel, 1935, Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 60: 203. Holotype: MNHNP 1935.153, according to the original publication and Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 220. Type locality: Isaka-"d'Ivondro, alt. 700 m.; région de Fort-Dauphin", Madagascar.

Known only from rainforests in Southeast Madagascar at low and medium elevations.

Removed from the synonymy of Mantidactylus femoralis by Rabibisoa, Welt, and Raxworthy, 2023, Animals, 13(17: 2800): 21, where it had been placed by Guibé, 1978, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 11: 26. Rabibisoa, Welt, and Raxworthy, 2023, Animals, 13(17: 2800): 1–67, also provided a detailed account covering relevant literature, morphology, and molecular markers and provided a dot map for the species.
