Distribution
Endemic to a small area of the central highlands of Madagascar (known from Ambositra, Ankazomivady, Antoetra, Antsirakambiaty forest, Col des Tapias, Ibity, Itremo, and Vatolampy), 1300–2090 m elevation.

Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 236–237, provided an account and noted two similar unnamed species from Ambohitantely and 3) Ankaratra. Subgenus Brygoomantis, Mantidactylus curtus clade of Scherz, Crottini, Hutter, Hildenbrand, Andreone, Fulgence, Köhler, Ndriantsoa, Ohler, Preick, Rakotoarison, Rancilhac, Raselimanana, Riemann, Rödel, Rosa, Streicher, Vieites, Köhler, Hofreiter, Glaw, and Vences, 2022, Megataxa, 7: 113–311, who provided an account detailing (p. 166–170) diagnosis, natural history, adult and larval morphology, and distribution.
