Distribution

Small area in far South East of Madagascar; known from Andohahela, Manantantely, Mandena, Nahampoana, Pic St. Louis, and Tsitongambarika. Elevation range: 8–415 m.

Considered a nomen dubium by Guibé, 1978, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 11: 45; Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 261; and Glaw and Vences, 1992, Fieldguide Amph. Rept. Madagascar: 278. Recognized and placed in the subgenus Brygoomantis, Mantidactylus betsileanus clade of Scherz, Crottini, Hutter, Hildenbrand, Andreone, Fulgence, Köhler, Ndriantsoa, Ohler, Preick, Rakotoarison, Rancilhac, Raselimanana, Riemann, Rödel, Rosa, Streicher, Vieites, Köhler, Hofreiter, Glaw, and Vences, 2022, Megataxa, 7: 113–311, who provided an account detailing (pp. 223–224) molecular and morphological diagnosis, natural history, advertisement call, adult morphology, and distribution.
