Comment
Closely related to Megophrys minor and Megophrys jiangi (both now in Boulenophrys) according to the original publication. See comment under Boulenophrys minor. Lyu, Qi, Wang, Zhang, Zhao, Zeng, Wan, Yang, Mo, and Wang, 2023, Zool. Res., Kunming, 44: 380–450, placed this in their Boulenophrys minor group and (p. 413–414), provided an account, rediagnosed the species, discussed the literature of cryptic species, and transferred records of nominal Boulenophrys minor from Emeishan, Gulin, and Hejiang in Sichuan and Weixin in Yunnan, to Boulenophrys chishuiensis.
