Type locality: "Dayaoshan Nature Reserve (26.5517°N, 114.1548°E; ca 845 m a.s.l.), Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China". Corrected to "24.1602° N, 110.2304° E; ca 1200 m a.s.l." in erratum by Qi, Lyu, Wang, Mo, Zeng, Zeng, Dai, Li, Grismer, and Wang, 2022, Zootaxa, 5115: 600. Distribution
Known only from Jinxiu and Mengshan counties, and Guiping City, Guangxi, China, all in the Dayao Mountains in evergreen secondary forest, inhabiting flowing montane streams and the nearby forest floor and leaf litter at elevations between 1200–1350 m.

Comment
Previously confused with Megophrys minor and Megophrys brachykolos according to the original publication, where the older literature was discussed as well as comparative morphology and molecular markers were detailed. Qi, Lyu, Wang, Mo, Zeng, Zeng, Dai, Li, Grismer, and Wang, 2022, Zootaxa, 5115: 600, published an erratum correcting the elevational range to 1200–1350 m. A detailed account provided by Lyu, Qi, Wang, Zhang, Zhao, Zeng, Wan, Yang, Mo, and Wang, 2023, Zool. Res., Kunming, 44: 444, who assigned it to the Boulenophrys boettgeri group.
